Former President of the Paris Bar Association

Pierre-Olivier Sur joined the Paris Bar in 1985. He is also a member of the Phnom Penh Bar and the Temple Garden Chambers in London. He is listed as a defence counsel for the Special Tribunal for Lebanon.

Pierre-Olivier has been a partner at FTMS since 2000. He was elected Secrétaire de la Conférence des avocats du barreau de Paris in 1990, then member of the Conseil de l’Ordre in 1998, and President of the Paris Bar in 2014. He has served on the Board of Directors of the Fonds de Garantie des Victimes (Victims’ Guarantee Fund) and has been a member of the Ethics Committee of the Paris Bar.

Due to his reputation in criminal law and his vast litigation experience both in France and abroad, FTMS is at the forefront of major criminal cases. He has played a key role in many of the most high-profile trials over the past thirty years.

He is regularly sought after in France by prominent political, business, and financial figures. As a result, he handles all areas of criminal law and is involved in cases of public health and major accidents. His expertise in litigation and media engagement is often solicited for high-profile trials pertaining to questions of business, art and national heritage.

He represents clients abroad before both international criminal courts and national jurisdictions, especially in Africa. Moreover, he advises numerous foreign personalities, including in legal proceedings against them in France (international arrest warrants, red notices, and asset seizures).

He actively participates in major public debates on civil liberties through speeches, articles, and opinion columns.

Pierre-Olivier has a rich academic experience, having taught at several universities, including Sciences Po, and at the Paris Bar School, where he has also held the position of president. He spearheaded the creation of the Compliance Officer programme at the Paris-Panthéon-Assas University.

He participated in Raymond Depardon’s documentary film “Délits Flagrants,” which won the César Award for Best Documentary in 1995. He is also an accomplished author. His book “Dans les yeux du bourreau,” published by JC Lattès in 2010, was a finalist for the Fémina Prize in the essay category.
